Last night the BET Awards aired at 8 p.m. ET. The night, packed with appearances and performances, also served as a platform for redemption for several stars. Here is my list:

1. Alicia Key’s Body– You may have thought that because Alicia Keys is pregnant she would stay seated in the audience at the award show. Nope. The 29 year old singer, carrying Switzz Beats’ child, performed several times at the show. During her tribute to “Life-Time Achievement Award” winner Prince, she got up from behind her piano, climbed on top, arched her back and proceeded to finish singing “Adre.” Body let everyone know that it would not be defeated by a baby bump.

2. Chris Brown– Brown plead guilty to assaulting then girlfriend  Rihanna in February 2009. Last night, Brown took the stage to tribute Michael Jackson. During “Man in the Mirror,” Brown broke down and crumpled to the floor crying. At the end of the night, he also won the “Viewer’s Choice Award.” During his acceptance speech he said that he was surprised he won and said to the audience”I let you all down before, but I won’t do it again. I promise you.”
3. T.I.- The rapper, who was released from jail after serving months, has already redeemed himself before, during and after his arrest. Still, Last night’s performance was his first major one after being released in December after serving for gun possession charges.
4. Kanye West– Last year West was heavily criticized after interrupting county singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. In addition, many media outlets have reported that the usually boisterous singer has been quiet and avoidance of the spotlight. Last night, Kanye opened the award show by  emerged from a makeshift mountain.
5. El DeBarge– the singer from the 1980s group Debarge sang old and new songs from his upcoming album-the first in 16 years. He had kept a low profile after several arrests for drug possession and domestic violence.
6. Eminem- performed his new single, “Not Afraid.” The rapper recently overcame drug addiction.
Honorable mentions:

7. Janelle Monae– She never needed anyone’s approval or acceptance. The singer proved it again last night while singing Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” Electric.

8. Nicki Minaj- Not that she needed to be redeemed. but if she needed reassurance, she got it by winning “Female Hip-Hop Artist,” “Best New Artist”and when Young Money won “Best Group.”

I have not been on my blog in a while, but recent reaction to the video “Best I Ever Had” inspired me to  jump back on my blog and write.

Recently, Aubrey Graham, also know as rapper Drake, released a video for his song “Best I Ever Had” from his mixtape So Far Gone. The video was directed by fellow rapper Kanye West and contains cameos by artists Fabolous, Common and Trey Songz.

“So Far Gone” has received mixed reviews on social networks many young listeners who posted on online social networks that they offended by the video.

I myself have heard and read many negative opinions of the Canadian actor turned rapper/singer’s video. As a result, I decided to find try to find out what the 22 year old was trying to portray with his video.

On June 21, Drake described his video as “a metaphor” in an interview with Champ Magazine at the 2009 Music Much Video Awards in Toronto, Ontario.

Do you think he effectively portrayed his view in his music video?

On his blog, rising star Kid Cudi said that his first album, Man on the Moon: The Guardians, will be his last. He credits his decision to attacks and personal trials he has been given from the public and the media. He states, though, that he will still make collaborations with other artists, perform and work on an upcoming show with HBO.

For his fans, it will be a hard blow to take. Cudi has been featured in impressive names such as Complex Magazine, XXL, BBC News. Last year Rolling Stone honor him in their Top Five “Best Indie Hip-Hop” artists of 2008.

To the fans from his blog:
